Richard Berman
For nearly four decades, Richard Berman has dedicated his time and effort to making the world a better place, especially in the fields of education, housing, health care, and community development. Following successful leadership positions with government agencies, medical centers, and private companies, Richard Berman accepted the role of President of Manhattanville College in 1995.
As the tenth President of Manhattanville College, Richard Berman transformed the New York institution from an establishment with millions of dollars in debt to one of The Princeton Review’s Top 20 Most Diverse Campuses and U.S. News & World Report’s Top 100 Wired Colleges in the country. Today, Manhattanville College is widely recognized as an excellent liberal arts school that serves students from all over the world.
During his term at Manhattanville College, Richard Berman headed new development of the institution’s course offerings, student facilities, sports teams, faculty, and technology, among other areas. Without selling any of Manhattanville College’s properties or acquiring more debt, Richard Berman facilitated significant increases in the number of Manhattanville students and instructors, as well as the amount of the endowment and net assets of Manhattanville College over the course of 14 years.
After leaving Manhattanville, Richard Berman was honored at 2009’s Manhattanville College Spring Benefit Gala, where he received recognition from individuals and organizations including Flik Independent Schools and Sound Shore Medical Center. Additionally, the newly built Manhattanville College Student Center was named the Richard A. Berman Student Center.
Currently, Manhattanville’s past President maintains a role at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as Senior Advisor to the Commissioner. He also holds a position at The New York City Police Museum as President and Trustee. Additionally, Richard Berman acts as President and Chief Executive Officer of LICAS, a company he founded in 2009, which provides services to academic and medical establishments. A former Official Consultant for the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur, Richard Berman now carries out work as a Fulbright Specialist and Health Care Advisor to the President of the Republic of Rwanda.
